Meditation number 67

Three words

Here are three words in their human order:
  Life – Death – Judgment*
According to the Bible, it is appointed unto living men once to die, but after this the judgment (Hebrews 9:27), so life – death and judgment in that order. The gospel, the good news, also presents these three things but in a different order, completely reversed.

Here they are in divine order:
  Judgment* – Death – Life
The Lord Jesus, while He was still alive as a man, on the cross, bore the judgment our sins deserved. Once that judgment passed, he voluntarily went into death. And now by His resurrection, He lives forever as a risen Man. The Bible also teaches us (John 5:24) that those who believe in Him are passed from death unto life (everlasting), without passing through judgment for their sins(for the Lord has already born the judgment for them). Men without Christ pass from life, to death and then to judgment. But for the believer, judgment is passed, even death is passed (John 11:25-26) and we can enjoy right now everlasting life which will have its fullness at the coming of the Lord when the dead in Christ shall be raised and the living changed in the twinkling of an eye(1 Cor. 15:52).
